Hi, I’m Ebony Wheeler, founder of Brown Eyed Girl Yoga. Over the years, my teaching has stretched and grown in ways I never could’ve planned. It started with the physical shapes — exploring studios, posting progress pics and videos on IG. But somewhere along the way, I realized what I was really learning had less to do with what poses I could do and more to do with how deeply I could study, sit with myself, and stay grounded when I was angry or annoyed.
That’s what these blogs will be about...
This space is where we’ll explore yoga beyond the mat. The wisdom in the yoga sutras. The power of the eight limbs. The stories in books and teachings that shape how I move through the world. Asana (physical poses) will always be a doorway, but what happens once you walk through is where the real work lives.
My sadhana, my daily spiritual practice, keeps me rooted. It’s what keeps me grounded when life starts to life. It’s what keeps my classes intentional. It’s what helps me teach from a real place, not a script. Over time, I’ve learned the practice isn’t just about showing up for the hour you’re on the mat. It’s about how you live when you roll it up.
Here, I’ll share the themes that inspire my classes, what challenges me, the teachings that guide me, and the ways I try (and sometimes fail) to live this practice every day. Expect reflection. Expect honesty.
If yoga is a conversation between body, breath, and soul, this is my way of continuing that conversation with you. Let’s explore what happens when yoga becomes a way of being, not just something we do.
Thank you for being here
,Ebony (The brown eyed yoga girl)
